Long Time No See

I haven’t had any entries here in a while.  To be honest, I have become a full time Ruby on Rails programmer and I’ve spent a lot of my free time doing freelance for (for example the nice lady at Personalized Chopsticks, or the showering twitter app, Showwer).  I wanted to put a post up here because I have received a few comments asking for a Zend Framework – WordPress plugin example and I wanted them to know its coming.  If anyone has any suggestions for what sort of plugin they would like me to make as an example, let me know in the comments.  Also, I figured I’d throw it out there that the iPhone 3.0 beta is pretty neat so far.  (As long as you don’t mind restarting your iPhone twice daily).  Thanks all!

As a side note, Safari 4 Beta is apparently not totally compatible with the WSIWYG in WordPress…

First iPhone App

I just finished the first iPhone app I have written “on my own” (ie using Apple’s sample code). Just a proof of concept app like the Backgrounds app that already exists, but it uses pages (the dots at the bottom) and allows you to save the wallpapers to your iPhone pictures so you can set the images as your wallpaper. I used the sample thumbnails from my favorite webcomic’s (Hijinks Ensue) iPhone wallpapers.

Surf Google Earth with the Wii

Thanks to Google engineer David Oster, you will now be able to surf Google Earth with the Wii Balance board. The video on it is pretty cool. David has also said it will be all open source so the bluetooth drivers for the balance board will be available for other apps as well.

iPhone SDK Learning – Day 3

I have been making the move into learning objective-c and how to program for the iPhone (my Christmas present this year).  As a basis for my learning, I know PHP and I am familiar with Ruby (at very least Ruby’s syntax).  I bought the book Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK and I began reading it on Sunday night.  Immediantly I realized I wold need more of a primer on C and Objective C.  A quick Google search brought me to a site on learning Objective-C, though that tutorial directed me first to the learn C article on the same site.  After reading those I felt I had a pretty good grasp of the concepts and syntax of Objective-C.  This is now my third day with the book.  I have found Beginning iPhone Developement to be extremly helpful in not only learning how to create apps for the iPhone, but also in using XCode, Interface Builder and Objective-C 2.0.

Happy New Year

Firstly, my apologies for not fixing the issue with the Blueberry theme so that the colors are managable in the admin.  It is now fixed and should be approved by the WordPress team soon.  I don’t really have any excuses besides starting a new buisiness (Shield Computers) and the holidays.  I will be regularly updating from now on however (its one of my New Years Resolutions). As a quick note, WordPress 2.7 is out and  I will be adding support for threaded comments soon.  Thanks for reading and Happy New Year.
